Nutella Bagels

Happy World Nutella Day! No real reason for this day other than an American blogger called Sara Rosso in 2007 who loved Nutella so much she thought it deserved a holiday and we do too! For this day, I wanted to make something a little different that was maybe more challenging than just Nutella brownies or cupcakes. It was then when I went downstairs to make breakfast when I realised I had no bagels left to eat that the idea came to mind.

Lemon Macarons with Swiss Meringue Buttercream

After finally mastering the macaron after plenty (and i mean PLENTY) of tries and fails, I have FINALLY been able to actually test new flavours and fillings. After making my Passionfruit Macarons which turned out so delicious, I wanted to make another flavour which was just as tasty.

Thats where these babies come in. When I first thought of doing a lemon macaron, I wanted to have a lemon macaron shell and a lemon filling. One of the most difficult things to make is a macaron shell and when I started adding lemon zest to them, they came out all bumpy and liquid flavourings would make the mixture runny. I decided that the macaron shell itself needed to be a normal macaron shell, coloured yellow and then the filling is what will pack a punch of flavour.

Marble Cake

Marble cake is my favourite! And especially good when you love both chocolate and vanilla cakes and you find it difficult to choose which one to have!! This cake is very simple, with no real icing on top just a drizzle of both white and milk chocolate. You can cut this cake in half and fill/cover with a chocolate buttercream if you like, like this recipe by Sallysbakingaddiction!

For anyone who doesn’t follow my social media, I have decided to give up meat for Lent. I wouldn’t call myself a huge meat lover, but most of my midweek meals always include chicken and I rarely think of ordering a vegetarian (or fish) meal when I go out to a restaurant.

So yes, I did just post a “healthy” recipe for pancake day but now… it’s time for the SINS! Because lets face it, nothing is better than treating yourself to something oozy and delicious after a horrible wet rainy day in the UK.

These are the ULTIMATE sweet treat for a day like pancake day which all the family (especially the kids and big kids like me) will enjoy. The caramelisation of the banana melts into the vanilla custard which is just so darn good!!

GBBO Challenge Week Eight – Forgotten Bakes – SAVOY!

What the **** is a savoy cake? Anyone else feel the same way? I hope so, because this week I was left completely flabbergasted at some of the things being made, which is why I think they named it forgotten bakes…

This weeks recipe is taken from Kate’s Pecan Savoy Cake, which was actually enormous on the show, but the recipe cuts it down to one simple sponge. However, I didn’t bother with the chocolate decoration, I stuck to a simple coating of icing sugar and fresh berries (and then ate it with a pool of custard!!)
