Marble Cake

Marble cake is my favourite! And especially good when you love both chocolate and vanilla cakes and you find it difficult to choose which one to have!! This cake is very simple, with no real icing on top just a drizzle of both white and milk chocolate. You can cut this cake in half and fill/cover with a chocolate buttercream if you like, like this recipe by Sallysbakingaddiction!

GBBO Challenge Week Eight – Forgotten Bakes – SAVOY!

What the **** is a savoy cake? Anyone else feel the same way? I hope so, because this week I was left completely flabbergasted at some of the things being made, which is why I think they named it forgotten bakes…

This weeks recipe is taken from Kate’s Pecan Savoy Cake, which was actually enormous on the show, but the recipe cuts it down to one simple sponge. However, I didn’t bother with the chocolate decoration, I stuck to a simple coating of icing sugar and fresh berries (and then ate it with a pool of custard!!)

Cake Pops from Leftover Cake!

This is a super quick and easy recipe if you have leftover cake from trimmings or if you’ve made too many layers and want to use one to make something else! Whatever the reason, this recipe is for people who have none of the fancy cake pop utensils and just want something to make instead of throwing away good cake!

The Perfect Fluffy Chocolate Sponge

Chocolate Cake, it’s delicious, decadent and we just can’t get enough of it! But boy are they hard to perfect! Too bitter, too sweet, too stodgy. I’ve eaten them all! Until I came across this recipe by the magnificent MARY BERRY and adapted it slightly to perfect the ultimate chocolate sponge!

GBBO Challenge Week Three – Sticky Toffee Apple Caramel Cake

final10.jpg

Caramel Week! A first for the GBBO and pretty new to me too. I rarely attempt to make caramel, too many disasters and too many burns when I do! But watching the episode made me feel inspired to give it another go. This cake is absolutely scrumptious! It is a perfect Autumn treat and would even go great at a Halloween party!

GBBO Technical Challenge Week One – Chocolate Mini Rolls

It’s that time of the year again… The Great British Bake Off is back! Tuesday evenings are now full of joy (and hunger) with 12 new bakers entering the tent to test out their home baking skills.

Each week the bakers are tasked with a ‘technical bake,’ which is usually a tricky recipe with minimal instructions. This year I have decided to follow their recipes and make these technical bakes at home, starting with the first technical challenge of the season – Mini Rolls!

Simple Citrus Madeira Loaf Cake

finishedloaf2

Summer is well and truly coming to an end *cries endlessly* which means back to work, school and rain. But whilst it’s an end of pimms, summer fruit tarts and sun, it’s a start of hot cups of tea and warm sponge cakes and who could complain about that? This citrus madeira cake is so simple yet so delicious. The sweet aroma fills the entire house whilst cooking and makes a perfect afternoon treat snuggled on the sofa!
